About Pride In Health

Our Service

Pride In Health is a trans+ led, not-for-profit service supporting transgender, non-binary and intersex adults to access affirming, ethical and collaborative healthcare.

We provide gender-affirming care through a multidisciplinary team of UK-registered clinicians and professionals, supported by secure systems, shared policies, clinical governance, safeguarding processes and peer oversight.

Our aim is to make care safer, clearer and more joined-up, while supporting collaboration between clients, Pride In Health clinicians, GPs and other healthcare professionals where this is clinically appropriate and consent has been given.

Our Approach

We follow a harm reduction and informed consent model, centred around the right to access timely and respectful healthcare.

We work with clients who are accessing private care, self-managing their care, including people who may describe this as DIY hormone use, or seeking parallel support alongside NHS care pathways.

Clinical decisions are made by appropriately registered professionals working within their scope of practice, professional registration and clinical responsibilities, supported by Pride In Health’s shared systems, governance processes, safeguarding framework and multidisciplinary team structure.

Our Structure

The multidisciplinary team includes UK-registered professionals, including:

  • GP-led clinical team
  • GMC-registered hormone specialist
  • NMC-registered nurse prescriber
  • GPhC-registered pharmacist prescriber
  • HCPC-registered biochemist
  • HCPC-registered clinical psychologists
  • BPS, COPC and ACCPH registered psychologists

All clinicians are verified, insured and working in line with professional standards and safeguarding protocols. Where appropriate, clinicians also engage in peer supervision, training and regular case discussion.

Shared Care & External Providers

We actively encourage collaboration with GPs, surgeons and other healthcare providers where the client gives consent and it is clinically appropriate.

Clinicians working with Pride In Health can:

  • Provide medical summaries or treatment recommendations to support shared care agreements
  • Communicate with NHS or private providers regarding continuity of care
  • Respect each client’s right to self-determination and privacy, while ensuring safeguarding and clinical responsibilities are upheld

We understand that providers may have concerns when supporting clients engaged in private or community-based transgender care. We are happy to offer:

  • Confirmation of clinician credentials working with our shared patient (with their consent)
  • A summary of care structure and monitoring plans
  • Direct communication with the clinician involved, if appropriate and requested.

Prescribing and Clinical Oversight

Clinicians working with Pride In Health support clients using structured pathways grounded in recognised best practice and informed consent. Care is provided by regulated professionals working within Pride In Health’s clinical governance structure, and within the scope of their registration, insurance and current professional guidance.

Prescribing clinicians follow pathways aligned with:

  • GMC Good Medical Practice (2024)
  • NMC Standards for Prescribing Programmes (2018)
  • WPATH Standards of Care v8, with a focus on informed consent and harm reduction
  • UK national guidance, including Gender identity
  • healthcare: Adults and young people Standards September 2024

All hormone prescribing is supported by:

  • Initial psychology and diagnostic assessment
  • Initial clinical assessment and  follow-up clinical assessments by UK-qualified clinicians
  • A structured consent process covering risks, benefits and unlicensed medicine use
  • Blood test monitoring at regular intervals, usually every 3 months early on
  • Clinical reviews every 6 months or earlier if needed
  • Shared decision-making with the client, based on individual goals and health context

All client records, blood results, documents and consent forms are securely stored and reviewed within Carebit, a cloud-based clinical system with two-factor authentication.

Prescriptions are issued using SignatureRx, a secure electronic prescribing platform that allows clinicians to generate and track private prescriptions safely.

SignatureRx ensures that prescription codes are sent directly to the client’s nominated email, mobile, or directly to Signature Pharmacy for home delivery if chosen.
