Blood Test Information for Gender-Affirming Care

Blood tests are an important part of safe gender-affirming hormone care.

This page explains baseline blood tests, hormone monitoring, blood test review and how results can support clinical decisions for testosterone, oestrogen and related medication.

Why blood tests are needed

Blood tests help clinicians understand your current health, check whether treatment is safe to start or continue, and monitor how your body is responding over time.

They may be used before starting gender-affirming hormone treatment, during ongoing care, or as part of a blood test review through Flexible Support.

What blood tests can support

  • Baseline checks before hormone prescribing is considered
  • Monitoring for masculinising hormone therapy
  • Monitoring for feminising hormone therapy
  • Review of hormone levels and wider health markers
  • Ongoing clinical review and safer prescribing decisions
  • Shared care discussions with your GP, where appropriate

Important note

Blood test requirements can vary depending on your medication, health history, current treatment and clinical pathway. Pride In Health will confirm what is needed for your care.
